Description

A REPRODUCTION OF THE 1908 CARDINALS SWEATER CARDIGAN History: The Cardinals are one of baseball’s oldest professional franchises. They began life in 1882 as the St. Louis Brown Stockings. After changing their name to the Browns (not to be confused with the St. Louis Browns of the American League) for several seasons, they became the Perfectos in 1899. The team adopted the Cardinals name in 1900 after the red shade of trim on their uniforms was commented on by St. Louis Reporter sportswriter Willie McHale. This is an authentic reproduction of the styles worn by the Cardinals during the 1908 season.

Jackie Robinson Mesh V-Neck Jersey

Jackie Robinson Mesh V-Neck Jersey

A MESH THROWBACK UNIFORM HONORING JACKIE ROBINSON ALL-STARS History: On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson stepped onto Ebbets Field for his first game with the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking the MLB “color line” as the first black player to play in the league. Jackie’s example of character, dignity, and toughness continues to inspire us today. While playing for the Dodgers’ affiliate in Montreal, Robinson formed the Jackie Robinson All-Stars, a collection of minor and major leaguers who toured around the country, giving fans a chance to see their heroes up close and personal. We made this throwback mesh V-neck jersey to celebrate Jackie’s All-Stars and their impact on the game. Made with logos and lettering inspired by the designs of Jackie’s era, this mesh jersey is lightweight, breathable, and easy to wear, perfect for repping baseball history without working up a sweat.

Black Fives T-Shirt - White

Black Fives T-Shirt - White

Description: As part of They Gave Us Game, Ebbets Field Flannels is honored to explore the history of Black basketball. This t-shirt is inspired by the legacy of the Black Fives. History: Just after basketball was invented in 1891, teams were called “fives” in reference to their starting five players. The sport, like society, was racially segregated, and all-Black squads were called “colored quints,” “Negro cagers,” or “Black fives." The sport remained divided from 1904 - when basketball was first introduced to African Americans on a wide-scale organized basis - until the racial integration of the National Basketball League in the 1940s and the National Basketball Association in 1950. During that time, dozens of all-Black teams emerged, flourished, and excelled, staging culturally rich, socially meaningful events that strengthened Black communities in the face of Jim Crow oppression.
